Otherwise a great gadget.
You can see it in the video but this little Shark does great. It doesn't pick up every last piece down in the carpet and crevices, but to be honest, I was really surprised at the power it had to pick up most of it, even where I had spilled a little pile with the new bag. It's enough to make it look nice and tidy, keep the litter off the floor, and use daily when I scoop the box. It's surprisingly quiet for the power and doesn't terrify the cat if he's in the other room. It's sleek and looks nice in my small living space plugged into the wall.
It also picked up dirt off the chair after the cat decided to play in my potted plant one day. I cleaned up in just a minute without the big vacuum. It doesn't run a really long time (maybe 5 minutes? I didn't time it) but that's perfect for my needs. I'll trade more power for less run time. The filter did get a bit clogged so I'll have to make sure to periodically wash that so the vacuum stays in good shape, but that's very typical of cat litter. It's hard on vacuums. One nice feature is the cup filled up the first time I was trying it out and I didn't realize it and it shut itself off. I emptied the cup and wiped off the filter and it started right back up. Probably a safety feature but good if you're not paying attention and accidentally overfill the cup or clog the filter.
I don't think this would work for a multiple cat home or cat rescue. You have bigger cleaning needs with longer run time and power needed. But for a small living space and 1-2 pets, it's perfect. Sleek and gets the job done in between large vacuum days. I'll see how long it lasts but so far am very happy with my purchase.
One of the standout features is definitely its ease of use, which makes it a breeze for those everyday spills and messes. However, I’ve noticed that the vacuum paper filter inside the metal filter requires monthly cleaning to maintain optimal performance. If neglected, the vacuum will shut down after just a few seconds of use—a crucial point for potential buyers to consider.
Compared to other handheld vacuums, the Shark WANDVAC holds its own, especially in terms of its light weight and ease of maneuverability. You do pay for these lightweight capabilities with shorter battery life, but this is expected and common among lighter models.
Overall, I would recommend the Shark WANDVAC for anyone looking for an easy-to-use, efficient handheld vacuum. It’s excellent for quick cleanups, though keep in mind the maintenance needed to keep it running smoothly.
My Pros:
Lightweight
Good suction
Nice storage / charger
Easy to empty/ clean out
Doesn’t take up a lot of space
Looks nice
My Cons:
Price
Battery life
No light
One caveat: I plugged it in to the charger the evening I received it and made the mistake of placing it in the corner of my bedroom. Around 4:00 a.m., a flashing blue light on the unit woke me up. I moved the charger to a different room and have not had an issue with it flashing since.
In terms of features, the vacuum comes with a base for recharging and two attachments that also nest in the base. The crevice tool has a brush that swivels and locks into place. It’s a clever design that effectively makes this a 2-in-1 tool. That said, I think it’s of limited use in its brush form, so I don’t anticipate using it for much more than a crevice tool. The base snaps together easily and has rubber pads to keep it from sliding around. In practice, I found that it still slides around a lot because it is very light. I would have like to have seen a base that could be mounted to the wall, or at least something weighted that won’t slide around so much.
The capacity of this vacuum is its limiting feature. This device is not designed to vacuum your house, so I wouldn’t expect it to do that. The dust bin is very small and won’t hold much. On the plus side, the bin springs open in a satisfying way for emptying, and I kind of enjoyed that. Overall, I think this is an adequate little handheld vacuum, but only for very small jobs.
The vaccum itself has good suction for being a small little thing, and i really only bought this for my car and daughters car seat so it will work perfect for that.
I think it must have been a returned product that someone sold as new.
I want quality- I'm willing to pay a little more for something that will serve me well. I also have to balance that with how much it will be used. I was willing to pay the $250 for the top of the line in this category (although I didn't want to pay that much), if it met certain criteria. Some of these criteria are not shared by everyone.
I live in a smallish condo- I don't have tons of space for everything I could want and certainly not out on the counters. My previous hand vac needed to always be plugged in, if I wanted it charged and ready. Who wants to wait 2 hours after a mess happens to charge something up, or have to deal with cords and finding plugs nearby? The problem with this, is it was large and ugly. It looked like one of the sad, older robots on the Jawa land crawler- some of you know what I'm talking about. It was an eye sore to look at, and took up a lot of counter space- so I wouldn't and sometimes couldn't leave it on the kitchen counter- I needed to store it somewhere, and it would invariably would not be charged when I needed it. Add to that, it just didn't work very well- it was awkward to hold, heavy and didn't have much suction- and on top of all that, didn't last very long. I had it about a year and then chucked it in the trash.
Well I needed a new one, so I started to do my research. I watched all the youtube comparisons, read all the reviews, looked at what was online and in-stores. I compared prices, battery times, suction- style- every thing you could think of. The most expensive ones had some of the problems I mentioned above- you need a lot of space for these things, or you need a docking station that goes on a wall (I don't have a convenient place for that next to a plug)- otherwise the thing has to be stored...and I have bad memories of all that. It also turns out, the most expensive models don't really last all that much longer on battery than most of the others. What they do have, is great suction. So does this one, for it's size- it's one common thing that reviewers said about it, and they are right.
I decided on this Shark, and I'm quite pleased with it. It is stylish- modern, sleek, light. It's not an eye sore sitting on my counter and doesn't take up much space. Because of all that, it's always charged and ready for little clean ups. I actually clean up all the small leaves that land on my outdoor patio with it, when it gets windy here (I stress that they are small leaves). It does a satisfyingly decent job of this. It's true I have to empty it several times when doing this- the cup is small- but's a one-click and drop easy, 2-second clean. The 10 minute charge is just enough to clean my whole patio of small leaves and tiny twigs. It's actually fun to use, like a Harry Potter magic wand- I look around the house hoping to find some small crumbs or something so I can zap it. It's long enough that I can suction up a cobweb dangling down from the ceiling on occasion.
I'm very pleased with my purchase- Shark has a winner, here.
UPDATE: I've lowered my rating from five stars to four as with daily use, the noise level of the vacuum is a bit disturbing. It doesn't bother me personally but it sure bothered other people. I wish Shark would address this problem in upcoming vacuums.
You could, of course, use a whisk broom and dustpan, paper towels, or other tools for the task, or you could use a vacuum cleaner and just get it done. The problem with most vacuum cleaners is that you have to haul the large unit out of the cleaning closet, plug it in, and re-wind the cord afterwards. That's a lot of effort just to clean up some crumbs.
Enter the Shark Ion W1: a handheld, cordless, incredibly easy-to-use vacuum cleaner for small jobs. And just like that, the annoyance of having to drag out the "big" tool just to clean up my daughter's post-meal rubble is gone.
Here's why I really like this vacuum cleaner:
1) It's extremely easy to use. It has two buttons. Yes, TWO. One of them is the power button, which you press to turn the device on and off. The other is the button that opens the canister so you can empty it. The two buttons look a lot alike and are right next to each other, so fortunately the canister-emptying one is more of a "slide" than a button, which prevents you from opening the canister when you don't intend to.
2) It's very lightweight, which makes it super easy to wield. I find it to be the perfect overall length; it's long enough to grab some crumbs off the floor without too much exertion, but still short enough to feel like a compact unit.
3) It has two useful attachments. One is an upholstery-type tool, and the other is a narrow-opening "crevice" tool. The latter has a really neat little brush that flips down when you need it - a great way of getting two tools in one.
4) It has a very convenient charging station with a small footprint. Just drop the vacuum into the slot in the charger and it will be ready for the next mess.
5) It's easy to empty: Just hold it over a trash can, press the release button, and the canister opens up to empty its contents.
6) The filter is easy to clean: just pop it out and shake it over a trash can.
7) "Reminder" instructions on how to do things like open the filter cover, remove the filter, and clean the filter are printed right on the device. Very handy!
Anything I don't like about this vacuum cleaner? A few small picky things:
1) It's not a loud device, but its noise can be a little annoying; it's surprisingly high pitched and kind of "whiny."
2) I wish there was a way to mount it on the wall! I would love to have this thing on the wall of our laundry room instead of having to find a small shelf space for it.

A FEW TIPS FOR USING THIS VACUUM CLEANER
-----------------------------------------------------------
- When using the brush attachment, if you hold the unit too vertically the suction won't be effective because the suction opening will be too far above the surface you are cleaning (see my photo which demonstrates this). If you have it angled more than about 45 degrees you'll lose suction power. Unfortunately this means you may have to bend over quite a bit to vacuum things off the floor.
- There is a hinged flap inside the vacuum which you can see when you open the filter cover (show in one of my photos). I found that debris tends to accumulate around this hinge, so you may want to check it and clean it out periodically.
Overall I'm very pleased with this little cleaner. It's not something you would use as your primary vacuum cleaner, but for small messes it is absolutely fantastic.
I tried out the The Shark ion W1. Just a few observations.
First, it has great suction power. I was able to pick up a box that was just over a pound in weight.
Second, it holds a charge well. However, the unit did get hot when I ran it for more than 5 minutes trying to clean up dirt/sand from under the driver’s seat foot area in the car. It shut off, waited a few moments and started again.
Third, the filter to the cup seems to become blocked quickly even when the filter cup barely contains anything. Had to give it a shake.
Last, the air outtake is on the sides so wait to turn on unit when you are directly over the spill, or you could scatter lightly substance all over the floor.
Overall, it’s good for quick and fast clean ups but not for longer jobs requiring 5 minutes or more. It was priced at $129.99 on Amazon. I would wait until the price drops to purchase. I do like the attachments and the charger holder for all the pieces fitting on it. Small footprint for space.
