This vacuum sounds like a jet engine. You would think it’d have better suction being as loud as it is, but it’s about as expected for a stick vacuum. I hoped for more since it is a Shark, but instead of great suction, I find myself needing hearing protection to operate this.
The motor gets very hot while using it, after prolonged use you may want to use an oven mitt. I took a photo of the temperature reading 155 degrees, and that was after about 15 minutes of use with a clean canister and filters. The fact that it gets so hot in the area your hand goes makes it almost unusable for vacuuming more than one room.
The suction area of the dust container gets clogged very easy and then prevents dirt from going into the dust canister area, which makes for frequent emptying and linger clean times.
Overall, I would not purchase this vacuum. I love shark, but I’d find a different multi-floor vacuum.
The Roomba would find a hair every couple minutes and stop. I did a deep vacuum with our Kirby and the Roomba still found hairs. It could not operate independently in my house and was more irritating than just vacuuming. So it went back.
The Kirby is great but I don't use it as much as I'd like due to the weight. I wanted something I would use more often especially for the main level which is vinyl and shows dirt immediately after vacuuming. I added a very gross picture to illustrate the collection of hair with this shark. And a picture of the brushes after vacuuming to show the lack of hair in them. Even the Kirby rollers can't handle our hair and we have to cut it out after each vacuuming.
I still hate vacuuming. But this shark is amazing for what I needed it for. It finally overcame the hair.
It definitely does it's job and I'm happy with my purchase.
One thing I really like and didn't expect is that the dust cup has two sections, items get separated between the small particles and the big chunks so if you vacuum up a Lego or a coin or something it can easily be saved without having to dig in dirt.
However here are some things to consider with this vaccum.
1. It's heavy. I found myself getting tired of holding it up by itself without the floor extension if I was cleaning for an extended time. It's one of the more powerful vacuums and I guess this is the tradeoff there. This makes it quite top heavy and impossible to store without taking it apart. With the floor extension it's fine, no worse than a standard size vacuum.
2. It is really tall when fully assembled. I'm 5'2 and the full assembly goes up almost to my shoulder. This makes it kind of awkward to maneuver at times, I wish it was maybe 10 inches shorter.
3. The dust cup opens kind of weird and it can be messy if there's a lot of hair in there. Basically since it opens with the part that filters the dust as the lid, it's easy for dust to escape everywhere. I shared a picture to demonstrate.
4. When the vaccum needs to detach from the stick bit, I keep assuming the part with the detaching button comes off with the vacuum but it is actually part of the stick. I thought it was stuck at first but I was just pulling it apart wrong. Once I get used to it, it will be fine. It doesn't affect overall satisfaction for me, but it feels like a minor design flaw the creators might want to know about.
5. There are 3 attachments, but only 2 places to store attachments. I feel like it's going to be really easy to lose the third attachment when it has to live by itself and the rest of the vaccum gets to live together. It's also going to be really easy for me to forget about and neglect that third attachment. I spent some time debating which I would least mind losing or forgetting about.
We have 2 Dysons (orange balls). One Dyson, the wand suction stopped working about a year after purchase and the second one (about 6 months old) just wasn't cleaning as well as I thought it should be. It was picking stuff up but the suction just wasn't that great. So, I bit the bullet and started researching a new vacuum. I did a tremendous amount of research and this is the one that I thought would work best for our home life. I AM GLAD I ORDERED THIS!!
We are a family of 3 and pretty strict about no shoes in the house. When guests come over, they wear shoes so some dirt comes in. We have 2 dogs...a mini dachshund and a mix (papillon/king charles spaniel we are guessing). They don't shed a terrible amount and I don't think our dachshund sheds at all with his short little fur. My house is always cleaned on Fridays, top to bottom.
My shark came today and I put it together in about 15 minutes. Including getting everything out of the box. I used the Shark ONE TIME and only cleaned 2 area mats (in front of 2 different doors) and one area rug in the den (over hardwood floors). The rug we bought in August so it's about 7 months old. I was DISGUSTED yet AMAZED at what the Shark picked up. A TON of fur! You would think we lived in a barn. And an awful amount of dirt. I cannot recommend this vacuum enough.
So far I am in love with this thing. It's easy to push, in fact on one setting the thing drives itself. LOVE the lights in the front so you can see what you're cleaning. I haven't used all the attachments yet, but I think this will actually make cleaning fun! :D
This vacuum does all that and more! I swept with the other vacuum, then followed with this one. The canister was FULL a few times over with the hair and dirt that the other vacuum missed.
Tried the vacuum wars in several variations (this first, other vacuum after - canister almost empty), several rooms, several flooring types (regulat carpet, short ply rugs, tile and hardwood) this vacuum handled them all like a BEAST!!
And that's not even considering how easy it us to use! Self-propelled, great lighting, detachable in many different ways to clean whatever is needed!
Highly, highly recommend this vacuum to everyone!!!
I have had a Dyson for about 7 years now. It’s one of the older Cyclone models, not the crap Ball models they have out now. It has done what I thought was a good job at sucking dirt... until now. Boy was I wrong.
I’ve been on the hunt for a new vacuum for about a year, but spending $300 on a cleaning tool is not a light decision. I’ve read and researched extensively. I’ve owned a Shark Navigator in the past but ended up sticking with Dyson. I was interested in the Shark Apex with zero M but read a lot of reviews about how it’s awesome for hardwood but not great on carpets. Something about the front roller not picking up all the hair or dirt. If you’re leaning towards the Apex, check out the YouTube video where the guy tests it with “natural dirt” (aka lots of cat hair). It was an eye opener for me. Since I would mainly be using this for the carpet downstairs, I didn’t think the Apex was for me. After a weekend of watching YouTube videos and reading reviews, I found this gem.
We just replaced the carpet 8 months ago, so it’s still fairly new. I just vacuumed my carpets last week with my Dyson. The attached picture shows you all of the dirt and hair this Shark pulled up out of my carpet today. It also shows all of the extremely fine baby powder-like dirt that I’ve never seen in any other vacuum canister. I’m blown away. It has cleaned my carpeting better than anything I’ve ever used. I’m so thankful I bought this. I will update my review if I ever have an issue down the road with longevity, but for now I don’t think I could be happier.
The attachments I received include the Pet Tool with the built-in motor (AWESOME little thing for stairs!), the crevice tool, upholstery tool, and Hard Floor Hero (a suction only head which is nice and light), which I like much better than the hardfloor tool with the dusting pad Shark used to include. Shark even has a place on the vacuum itself to hold the two basic tools now, which is convenient.
I would buy this again in a heartbeat.
The vacuum can be used three ways, with ease--upright floor model, canister, and hand-held wand. I was so busy with work that I only got to use the vacuum twice during the first week I had it. The amount of dirt and dog hair it picked up was amazing! I have hard wood floors, throw rugs, ceramic and vinyl tile, carpeting in one room and everything looked better!! The vacuum performed easily on each and every surface. It pulled up so much stuff, I was emptying the dust cup several times! I couldn't believe it. The second time I used it, I had a whole 10 minutes until I left for work--I decided to vacuum my upstairs hall and stairs. I got those done, the upstairs bathroom, and the downstairs hall! Beautifully, I might add. Used in upright for halls/bath, used as canister on the stairs. Emptied dust cup, put away, off to work.
The suction is very good. I bought one 'used' through Amazon, because I could save a lot of money on the model. When it came, my husband put it together, I used it two minutes, my son vacuumed the kitchen. My son told me he didn't like the suction, so I worried I might have to return it. I went online, read reviews, and saw one that suggested removing and replacing the filters to improve the suction. I took the filters out, put them back in, and fantastic!! Worked so well. Definitely worth buying the 'like new' model.
If the cost of the filters is a concern: please note that you are able to wash the filters, and it is suggested you wash them every three months. I will wash mine this weekend, and I've only had my machine about a month. The reason: I figure I am picking up a LOT of extra dirt that was left behind by my other vacuum. I suggest that you visit the Shark website and watch the videos on the TruePet model. It explains a lot, and I found it very useful when making my decision. The vacuum does everything I want, looks just as pictured, has extra features I wasn't looking for, but like. The vacuum is not as noisy as my old vacuum was. Since I don't have to buy filters and bags (I will buy one set of spare filters, in case), there is a cost savings with this model. Shark makes a great vacuum!! The attached photos show my sofa, after I spent a few moments vacuuming up the dog hair that get under my leather cushions! My dog is blond, so its quite visible. It had not been vacuumed since September, due to my surgery, so there was quite a bit of hair. This shows how easily the machine picks up the hair.
Our dining room has a thin high traffic carpet, the living room has a rug, the stairs are carpeted, and there is carpet in a bedroom upstairs. I've never had carpeted floors ever. Just rugs. This was a main deciding factor in choosing a corded. I knew it would clean what I have. I was thinking more about not having enough charge to clean the house.
*research I've done:
-People complain about plastic parts. Everything is plastic nowadays.
-It's heavy. Yes, it's on the heavier side. My wife heard 15lbs and I received a look of disappointment...until we got it and she tested the rugs!
-Short cord. It's a normal length. What you might lose in cord length you'll make up for the quality of cleaning.
-Small canister. It's a good size unless you're cleaning up boxes of cereal and bags of rice lol. For normal cleaning, it does well. And if you're complaining about it filling up, no offense, you're not cleaning the floors enough.
-The hose is too short or not flexible enough. Partially true. I'm sure the flex tube will relax a little after many uses. What people might not take into consideration is removing the canister and it allows you to be more mobile.
**BONUS: the unit has a light that is on the bottom to show what you're cleaning, which is a must. imo. What I didn't know, or expect, was the wand hand you remove, also has a light...super bonus to the max. And final bonus is that the flex hose has a little nozzle that keeps it in place while using it upright and unhook for when using the want.
*I didn't know there what a "Powered Life-Away" was. That's because I've never used a corded vacuum in decades. This is probably why these types of models are more expensive. I'm glad I discovered what it is because this is a must-have if you have the funds.
*Removing the canister and using the wand with the vac head allows you to go completely flat and reach under the bed. Another must-have feature.
I watched YT video reviews, and reviews on here. I don't like reviews that are 1star because the product was received broken or whatever. That's a reflection of the delivery, not the product. And, unfortunately, that affects the real star worth. Also, I always get an extended warranty.
In my video, I show cleaning the carpeted stairs. There is a before and after pic of the stairs and a video cleaning it with the attachment. Keep in mind I was holding the phone in one hand and it was a quick demo. And, I've only lived in this place for 7 months and took it over as-is. I can guarantee it'd had been over a year since they were cleaned. 2 dogs and a cat lived here. You can see the carpet is pinned down in the corner by a tiny thin curtain rod (makes sense if you see the vid). It worked superbly. I ended up doing a detailed once-over and went back over with the carpet cleaner. The carpet looks amazing.
Now, I've only been using this 2x a week for just over 2 months. I've used the vac in normal upright, with the canister removed, and the attachments. I bought the extended warranty. I am so pleased. And so is my wife.
I write as honest reviews as I can and always attach a video as it speaks more words than a pic and a picture is worth 1000 words lol. If you've found this useful, please consider clicking the thumbs up for me. Happy Vacuuming.
This thing is fantastic, I am in love. 10/10.
So I went to see an allergist specialist. I got my blood tests back and turns out I’m allergic to my own dogs, my grass, my shade tree, and dust mites. And the levels in my blood are HIGH. I have had a Dyson ball for almost a decade now and I thought it was doing fine. I saw this vacuum was highly rated in Consumer Reports and on Amazon and thought “why not?” So I got it today. I vacuumed my house fully with my Dyson. The photo you see is ONLY from 2 5x7’ rugs and my master bedroom and the canister is half full!! I thought I had been keeping a clean house and hadn’t any idea just how much my Dyson was leaving behind. It’s insane!
The vacuum snapped together in seconds (I didn’t even glance at the manual, it’s that easy), it is super light weight, and I LOVE the wine color. Very classy. It glides along like a lawn mower, just chugging along your carpet like a grime-seeking machine without hardly any strength required to push it around. Cord length is decently long enough where I don’t need to plug in every 5’. I honestly think this vacuum will change my life and make me able to breathe easier and live better in my own home now that I know I had so many allergens that were just hanging out that my Dyson wasn’t getting.
Side note: it’s not very loud either! I was able to talk on the phone and still have a conversation. Love it!
This vacuum is definitely something you need to get to make sure your house is CLEAN.
Ordered in late March 2024. Failed about 2 months later -- only used 1X per week. Belt that holds the Brush Roller melted and disintegrated. Mucho hair sticks on the brush roller. Even before this, user had to stop vacuuming and clean roller of pet hair.
Suction is still fine. Yes, we have 2 large, hairy dogs.
The three pieces in the picture lock together in any order so you can have 4 different ways of suctioning. Take a minute to visualize all 4 combinations that still involve the suctioning part.
It also comes with lots of little attachments that are standard with any vacuum.
Long hair 100% still gets wrapped around the roller at the bottom, but because it has the silicon fins instead of little brushes, the hair is spaced out from the solid part of the roller and it is extremely easy to cut off.
My wife wanted a cordless vacuum, but she likes this one better because the cord gives it a ton more suction power.
Did my car with it. Australian shepherd and border collie hair everywhere plus upstate NY sand and salt from winter. See b4 and after. WOW
HATE: Look at the photos. That was after 3 uses! The brush roller was full of hair! Yes, I know I have 3 very furry dogs, but still...
The dust container capacity is waaaaay too small! I have to empty it twice every time I vacuum.
UNSURE: I think I should have stuck with a bagged vacuum. Opening the hatch to empty the dust container is NOT GOOD for someone with allergies. But buying bags is kind of a pain so there is that.
I am in love with it!!!
I shampooed the carpet last week. It should have been clean!
I vacuumed a small section of carpet with old vacuum then used the Shark over the same area. Very impressive because it got a lot out of it. It should have been minimal but it looks like a lot to me.
Highly recommend this vacuum!
What I love on this is the suction power. I also like how you can easily switch from lvp to carpet to heavy carpet. As you can see in my video, it is right on the handle so you don't have to lean over to make adjustments. (Please excuse my bad video as,I was trying to record and sweep at the same time). Anyway, another thing I love is how easy it is to dump the bin. It is simple to remove, hold over the trash, push the button and the bottom opens right up for ease of dumping. Another thing I love and missed on that other model I tried to buy is the light on the handle that illuminates while using the wand. It really does help when you are trying to get that dark corner or behind the fridge. The video I posted is of my new vacuum and the pics with the broken clip and where the cord is pulling is from my 6 year old one. This vacuum is a bit heavy but I don't mind if it means it is less fragile.
I was excited because I decided to go back to Shark and this vacuum received great reviews. The main reason I give it 3 stars is because when I first turned it on to give it a whirl it left a red stain on my carpet. I thought it was strange, but I really thought that it was just some kind of dust or debris because it was new. But after I scrubbed it down with my handy-dandy carpet cleaner, it still remains. Wry disappointing!!
Besides the permanent mark on my carpet it seems to suck up a lot of pet hair and dirt. It is a bit heavier than my last Shark.
It picks up a whole bunch of Dirt I didn't see in my Carpet which was was shocked about how much dirt was in my carpet and I was like wow but it was also Disgusting in to see all that dirt like sand In the container of the Shark Vacuum Cleaner!
Edit: 3 starts because suction power is good and item seems functional despite the missing parts, I have contacted seller and I am hopping they will fix the issue
Okay, I ran it through the house on carpeted and bare floors and here are my thoughts...
The Rotator is a very powerful vacuum, the videos where other customers are showing the power of the suction are on par with my own experience. I was very impressed with how much dirt, hair, dust, muck, and crud the Rotator picked up. But the big test was bird seed! We have a Parrot and he throws seeds everywhere and it gets in the carpet really deep and it can get really messy sometimes, the Rotator got it all out of the carpet save for a few seed hulls that needed to be raked out because they were tangled in the fibers, but when I opened the canister the Rotator was full of millet, seed, and hulls. The Shark Rocket and our old Dirt Devil which are now retired would struggle cleaning up this mess, whereas the Rotator made quick work of it with ease, and in a quarter of the time it would take with our other vacuums, so with that... 5 Stars!
On a side note; There is one video at the top of the list of reviews where one customer is claiming his brush motor went out, well the brush motor does not function in it's locked upright position, this is by design in case you have to walk away from the vacuum while it's running, but as soon as you drop the power head, it munches down on carpet and pulls you along for the ride!
The Rotator is a very powerful vacuum, and it may not be suited for people who may have issues handling the weight and pull of this beast of a vacuum, and I would say it's more powerful than commercial vacuums and industrial carpet cleaners I've used in the past, it feels and operates like a professional grade vacuum.
Pro's; One of the most powerful vacuums I've used next to commercial/professional grade vacuums. Hepa/Filters work and keep the dust in the container where it belongs, easy to lift canister and reaches under beds and other furniture with ease. I would recommend the Rotator for Hotel/B&B use, or wherever you need to get under beds and other furniture.
Con's; Did not come with the motorized brush like I thought it did. Heavy weight and may be awkward for some users. The motorized powerhead requires a firm grip as it will pull you along as it digs deep into the carpet.
ORIGINAL REVIEW;
Disappointed that it didn't come with the powered Shark Rotator True PET Mini Motorized Brush 160FLI650 for NV795 NV752 NV650 NV652. According to the pictures in the advert there is a person using the motorized brush (See Pic), going off that I thought it would be included in this package but it's not, and has to be purchased separately.
I should have read the advertisement more closely. With that being said, I'm going to put this thing together and run it through it's paces and update this later on the performance. i've been using a Shark Rocket for years and have been happy with it, and I'm sure I'll be happy with this one, but I would have been happy'ER! if it came with the motorized attachment.
After researching dozens of stick vacuums, I decided to try this one because of the lower price point and the reviews about how well it vacuumed carpets. I am very impressed! It works SO well on both floor types and makes cleaning the stairs extremely easy.
I love how easy it is to switch between using the attachments and the stick vac, and it picks up everything my old, huge regular vacuum wouldn’t (kitty litter, fur embedded in the carpet). I also like that it comes with a 5 year warranty.
The only big negative for me is that it does not stand up by itself. This makes stopping to move toys or other objects out of the way a little tricky. Other than that, GREAT BUY!
I purchased the NV752 after reading reviews. We have five dogs and vacuum daily.
The vacuum arrived yesterday and it was easy to assemble. Unlike the Rotator Professional there is no “twist” valve to adjust suction. You adjust via a button for floor/carpet type.
I noted that it was not picking up debris/hair on the hard floors as well as our other Sharks. It did great on carpet. I also didn’t see a lot of debris in the dust cup. I removed the dust up and noted a lot of hair/dust around the foam filter.
I cleaned the filter and dumped the small amount of debris from the dust cup. I then opened the top and noted some debris. I inverted the dust cup and the above part fell out.
I simply placed it back in the bin and put away the vacuum.
Today, my wife attempted to vacuum and the above part spun around the dust cup like a tornado and made an awful rattle.
After looking at our other Shark dust cups - they have a similar part and it’s not removable.
I contacted Amazon and they put me in touch with Shark.
After 35 minutes of a circular conversation about filters and parts not in the dust cup I gave up. I called Amazon back and they are processing the refund. We will send this vacuum back.
We have had great luck with Shark and will go back to the Rotator Professional. I would avoid the NC752.
Original Review:
I researched customer reviews, YouTube comparisons and specifications before purchasing this power broom/sweeper. We have 700 sq ft of dark, hardwood floors that show every piece of lint, plus a cat, & girls with very long hair. It was impossible to keep the floors clean with my full-size, canister vacuum, which is geared for carpet. This lightweight power broom really works wonders. I purchased mine with a cord on purpose because it's light weight & I intend on using it for at least a decade ;) Shark sells a battery version.
What I love —
• Weighty cleaning head for optimal contact with surfaces.
• Tap a button to change from hard surfaces to low pile carpet. It cleans low pile carpet surprisingly well (pic).
• Cleaning head has lights & can collapse to a low profile for cleaning under cabinets/furniture (pics).
• Single hand operation, very maneuverable power head.
• Two, "self-cleaning" brush/rollers; the first is a soft pile brush (like microfiber) that sweeps up debris & buffs surfaces. Second roller removes larger debris & hair. Refer to my pics showing coils of hair in dust collection bin & NOT all tangled on the rollers, the rollers are virtually clean! Pictures are from the same 30 minutes of cleaning.
• Easy to clean dust collection bin, & air filters. There are two air filters that may be easily washed after each use. My Shark's filters still wash clean after 2 months use (pic).
• Space saving storage using the hanging hook.
• The Brand; we own a 2013 Shark steam mop that still works flawlessly.
• The price! Holy cow, I have used the heck out of this little bugger for two months & I'm so happy with it's performance. So thrilled I didn't need to pay hundreds of $$ like other brands.
Note: I've seen reviews that complain that this vacuum overheats & shuts-off. I've had no issues with overheating, however I do watch the collection bin & I empty it during use when it is full or congested. I only wash the two filters when I'm finished.
What I don't like:
• Nothing. But I'll update this if anything comes up.
However it fell short of the mark in a couple of big ways. Maneuvering is clumsy. The weight is not balanced with the motor above your hand and the point of rotation on the floor isn't fluid like my old dyson. This means that it does put strain on your wrist. And while you don't spend 12hrs a say running this thing, I noticed it almost immediately.
The filters are an absolute joke. The mesh screen could let even sizable dirt through. After just a single use, the foam filters that lead to the motor were caked with dirt. Even the post-motor filter had quite a bit of dirt after only a couple uses. This doesn't bode well for longevity. It also means that dirt is getting out of the vacuum and back into the air.
The dirt container is tiny, and you will be emptying it often. In a 1000sqft apartment with 1 dog, I had to empty it 4 times because the cone would get packed up. And since the unit doesn't stand on its own, umpire laying it down or resting it somewhere you hope it won't topple over.
Good things: it does hard floors well, the bush head truly is tangle free, and it seemed to have good suction power.
It's just not for me. Going back to a more traditional upright/lift off for a bigger container, better on floor manuverability, and better filtration.
If you have a short haired cat, in an all hardwood 1 bedroom apartment, then this might be fine.
It arrived quickly, was packaged well, and only took 10-minutes to unbox and assemble it!
It used to take over two-hours to do the floors and this vacuum has CUT THAT TIME DOWN to about 45-minutes, all while saving me from pain in my back, arms, and neck with it’s specific light-weight design.
We have a 1500sf home and I only have to plug in the cord in two rooms in order to REACH EVERYTHING in the house. I prefer cords instead of cordless vacuums that have to be charged and only last 20-minutes, I want to be able to finish cleaning once I start.
IT FITS under cabinets, shoe racks, furniture, beds with ease and almost can lie down completely flat while doing so.
The best part is the swivel floor head piece which allows you to pull back, adjust, and go back under furniture in a variety of positions and TURNS EASILY - saving you from having to switch to a Swiffer for tighter areas!
I have accidentally ran over power cords and it does not suck them up. It has a PERFECT LAMP on the floor head piece to help guide you under furniture and considering the power behind the suction, it DOES NOT SOUND LOUD, very tolerable decibels.
Also, I have very long hair that gets everywhere all the time and most vacuums get the long hair stuck around the main roller on the floor head piece, BUT NOT WITH THIS VACUUM!!! Instead the HAIR IS PERFECTLY SENT TO THE FILTER and easily curled-up awaiting you to simply open and dump it out - WONDERFUL!
The only downside I have discovered is sometimes the handheld portion near filter can get kinda hot towards the end of cleaning, but has never smelled burnt or become untouchable.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS VACUUM. Our floors feel so nice, cold, and clean when I am done. I only additionally mop after vacuuming once every 6-weeks now and it’s enough. It’s just the two of us and we do not have animals, but with dirt - dust - hair - etc., I used to have to mop after every vacuum, but not anymore, not even in our high traffic areas.
Please view my videos - I hope this review has helped and I wish you happy hassle-free cleaning!
We just purchased the vacuum along with the Asurion protection plan in November of 2020. As of mid-July, I noticed that the vacuum wasn't picking up debris from the carpet. I tried a few more passes, giving the vac more chances as any lazy person would do, before simply picking up the bits of paper and lint by hand. I then tried going across my hardwood laminate flooring, to see if maybe the vacuum was losing suction or something. I didn't hear the telltale scrubbing noise, and then I realized the brush wasn't turning. Keep in mind, the vacuum has only been in my possession for 7 months, and we haven't used it very much in that time, though I keep the canister clean, and I've taken the thing apart to thoroughly rinse it and wash out the foam filter, so it definitely hasn't failed due to neglect or dirt buildup. I checked the very thin belt that drives the brush, and it was still flexible, supple, not overly loose. It looked like a brand new belt, with not a speck of dirt on it. I detached the hose, the wand, the canister, and put everything back together, but still nothing. The hose attachment still has suction and makes the usual vacuum noise, so it's only the brush motor assembly that's failed. I took the vacuum apart and checked the connections going into the main board, and to the motor. The unit is getting power all the way to the motor, so the motor is definitely dead. It doesn't have a burnt smell, so that's not the issue--there is some other internal failure that's caused it to not turn anymore.
I reached out to Asurion through the Amazon website, and it provided me a message saying that I was still within the manufacturer's warranty, so contact them, which I did. It was too late at night, and after getting the model number, serial number, and number stamped on the side of the power cord prong (?)
the Shark Ninja rep told me I'd need to call back earlier in the day to do a video call with them, so they could discuss warranty options. He told me that their warranty only covers the blower motor (suction), not the brush motor, so I'd need to go through Asurion (which already directed me to Shark Ninja). So I'm, being sent in circles because the part that failed isn't covered by Shark Ninja (it's their vacuum), and I guess it's too soon for Asurion, leaving me in the time-valley of despair. Because Shark Ninja had already told me they won't cover the brush motor assembly, I went out to a brick and mortar store, and bought another vacuum cleaner, anticipating the worst--$200 for the vacuum and however much for the Asurion warranty being a waste of money.
I still contacted Shark Ninja again today, and did the video call, wherein the young lady had me disconnect and reconnect the wand, hose, and canister, as well as show her the roller brush status light (which is off, since the brush isn't turning). All that to then offer to SELL ME a replacement brush assembly. I suppose I was expected to be thrilled that I was offered the part at 50% off the regular $89.99 price, and they'd waive the shipping (yay). I explained to her that it didn't seem worth it b/c the vacuum was still a fairly recent purchase, plus I had already bought the Asurion warranty, so it didn't make sense to then have to buy a replacement part, and then it could still fail in the future. She again offered me to buy the part, after providing the canned empathy statements (I know it's part of the job). I politely declined, and asked if they'd send an email or anything so I could have documentation that they could only offer to sell me another part for my vacuum. They offer no such records, but she said if I called again (why would I want to call again??) then they'd have a record of my previous interaction, so I'm left to take them at their word. This was not a good experience, and ultimately I've spent nearly $400 total between two vacuums just to have one that works. Before getting the Shark Ninja, I had never spent more than maybe 70 bux on a vacuum, and all the cheap ones lasted years before gradually failing. The previous homeowner where we currently live even left one of her old cheap vacuums, and it was still working fine, 6 years after we moved in, and I only threw it out because it didn't want to stand up on its own anymore. There's no telling how old our hand-me-down vacuum actually was, but it outlasted the Shark vacuum by far.
The attached pics show the shark vacuum, and the video is intended to illustrate that while the vacuum turns on, the brush does not turn at all. The brush indicator light does not turn on, so the vacuum knows that the brush is not turning. I feel like spending more has gotten me less, and I regret the purchase.
PS - we don't have any pets, and have never had any animals in our house, so the vacuum has never been overstressed from picking up any pet hair/fur/feathers, etc.
I like how the top part fits on the stick for storage. That was unexpected. It definitely lives up to the "no hair wrap" expectations! I have allot of hair and no matter how much i pick it off rug, it still got caught in my old vacuum. I HATE cleaning beater bars!!! I have a wood floor with a throw rug in my room. Under the bed is the wood floor that accumulates dust bunnies at a alarming rate! This cleaned out up spit spot and it was awesome!
I've only used this twice, but i LOVE it so far, with the exception is how it's emptied. THAT is a pain in the patootie for sure! It really is ridiculous and a hand washing after is a must! Also the top portion hurt my wrist when i vacuum. But i have been told i have degeneration in my wrist. I'm only 41!! Good grief! I was not expecting to have that problem.
I had had sheetrock sanded and repainted in three rooms, and there was a mess. I quickly unpacked, assembled, and began using the basic vacuum cleaner in about 10 minutes. The assembly instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Just do the assembly as you pull pieces out of the box.
I left the tools for later, and indeed didn't use them for three or four weeks - the basic vacuum is that maneuverable, and has enough suction to clean right up to baseboard edges!
I had used an old (though rebuilt to almost new standards) Hoover and a Compact vacuum (also rebuilt a few years ago) on the remodeled rooms. The dirt picked up by the Shark vacuum made it look like the rooms had never been vacuumed at all.
The attachments are easy. Be aware that there IS NO HARD FLOOR DUST ATTACHMENT included, so save time figuring out where it is. Instructions reference it - but it is NOT there. The attachments are simple slip/friction fit over the naked ends of the wand or handle. To store them, line up the slot cutout on the attachment with the part which protrudes from the dock, and push down. See pictures!
YES - this vacuum will leaves tracks on your carpet (see photo), the suction is so strong - but it will also help protect your investment by removing the dirt, dust and sand (if you have sand where you live) which destroys your carpet.
We wanted this vacuum mainly for pet hair on our rugs, our dog bed and for grass in our entry mat. I have been so impressed with the suction power, versatility, ease of use and lighting feature that this vacuum has. I use it about twice a week and it accomplishes everything I need it to do! We have a very heavy duty grooved entry mat because we are farmers and my husband owns a hydraulic and machining shop so he gets all kinds of nasty on his boots. I could barely get into all the crevices before but this vacuum has it looking brand new.
Features that I love:
-Handle. It has the power button on it and an easy thumb switch where you can go from hard floors to low carpet to high carpet and it’s easy to slide. It is also easy to remove with the push of a button so you can use the attachment features
-Attachments. We mainly use the pet attachment but also the upholstery one and the dust one. We use it for our walls and ceiling (spiderwebs) and in all the areas under the couch and recliners and in corners I need to get to.
-Lift away feature. I love how you can completely remove the vacuum from the stand so you can move around. This will be a great feature for stairs even though ours are hardwood and I don’t vacuum them much.
-Bagless system. This thing picks up so much hair and everything else! It’s also all washable.
-Rotator brush has not seemed to get too clogged even though I have long hair. It has a recessed line where you can use scissors to cut hair out and that was really useful when I pulled out some hair.
-Lighting. This to me is icing on the cake. The bottom of the vacuum lights up and when you remove the wand, it lights up. You can’t really tell on the wand because it’s daylight in my pictures but it is really bright.
-Labeling. Everything is so well labeled and easy to understand.
-Movement. It almost feels like it pulls along on its own and like it will vacuum along for you! It’s glides and tilts and is super flexible and gets under our couch and recliners easily. Although I use the wand to get farther underneath things.
I am still learning all the features of this vacuum but this has been a great product for us and I anticipate it will be for years to come!
We bought this item as a Used version and it said it had “large cosmetic defects” on it. It had a few scrapes on the front corner of the machine but it made this vacuum half off and it was totally worth it! Works great!
I was surprised to see this model is still being sold. This vacuum is a champ! It's been used hard! When my dog was still around he would shed constantly no matter how much you brushed him or got him groomed.... he would get up and walk across the room leaving a trail of fur behind him it was that bad. Everyday I vacuumed with this. It's been loaned out to numerous friends and family members to clean out their house after they've moved out or to clean their cars. I know for sure it wasn't treated with care during those times. I took it to another family members house where we'd have a community car cleaning day every so often and it got used by everyone. It's been knocked down a flight of stairs a couple times, left outside in the rain for a few days and has sucked up puddles of water (don't ask cause I don't know either) and the container has been over filled with hair/dirt and who knows what else. It just doesnt care what you do to it. I'm still on the original filters... I just wash them every few months or after a dirty job and they've held up. They don't stink either surprisingly.
It's been great and I haven't had a single issue with it. The hose at the bottom is starting to split so it whistles a little bit but it's probably just from age and constant abuse. It doesn't seem to affect the suction either. You can still see it pick up the carpet with its suction power as you're going over it. It's like an old Kurby.... except plastic and arguably more functional with how it comes apart to vacuum under furniture.
So if you buy one, it should last a long time! I might buy another one for when mine dies and these are discontinued.

I can't believe how much unseen hair and dust this thing picks up! I had an older Hoover which did a pretty good job but the Shark does way better! I waited to vacuum my house for about a week so I could do a test on both vacuums. First I used the Hoover which picked up stuff on the top of the carpet then when I used the Shark and saw how much the Hoover had missed my jaw about hit the clean floor! I definitely recommend this vacuum!
I was extremely pleased with my Shark Navigator but wanted to buy a vacuum with the latest technology. I looked at Shark and Dyson - but in the end I simply couldn't justify the exorbitant cost of the Dyson models. I finally narrowed my search to two vacuums: the one you're looking at right now and the similar
Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Speed (NV683)
. Both models are in the same family, but the Speed was lighter, had a smaller tank capacity, and, according to Shark's website, 40% less power than the TruePet model. I have two cats and a live in a one-bedroom apartment, so I appreciated the speed's lighter weight and smaller footprint, but I wasn't as thrilled about the lower dust bin capacity or the fact that it was less powerful than this one.
Ultimately, I passed on the Speed and opted for this one. Overall, I'm extremely pleased.
The Good:
-Power: this vacuum has an exceptional amount of power. I vacuum every other day and I was disgusted to see how much stuff this vacuum picked up compared to my Shark Navigator.
-LED lights: this model has LED lights on the brush and small handle, which makes seeing in low-lighting very easy (under beds, etc.)
-Flexibility: the ability to literally remove the dust bin from the unit allows for a very versatile vacuum. When removed, the vacuum lies completely flat, and you can get it under your bed and couches with ease. This also makes stairs much easier, because you can also remove the handle at the top and attach accessories, or even remove the long wand from the brush base and attach an accessory to get to high places (or in the little nooks and crannies on the floor) without ever having to bend down.
Some Pros:
-Pet Brush: the pet brush included in this works better than any I've ever used - my couch has never been this hair-free.
-Rotating Head: Much easier to maneuver, as the head rotates with the flick of a wrist.
-Settings: three settings on the handle - low pile carpet, high pile carpet, and hard floors.
-Canister Mode: removing the dust bin/motor and placing it on the included caddy essentially turns this model into an old-school canister. I like this mode because the caddy stores all but one of the accessories (the hard floor cleaner with dusting pad- which I literally never use). The downside- takes up more space. Note that this mode is only available with this model - the similar Speed model doesn't convert this way.
Some Cons:
-Heavy: this vacuum is pretty heavy compared to the Navigator it replaced. If you're elderly or have mobility issues, I'd recommend the Shark Rotator Speed instead due to its smaller size.
-It Pulls You: I'm not kidding. This vacuum is so strong, it literally pulls you. This is less of a hassle when you've got the dust bin attached, but when you remove it, it's like pulling a crazed dog on a leash.
-Tips Over Easily: the vacuum tips over very easily if you're in Lift Away mode when the dust bin is off. If you're going to do the stairs, under the couch, or any situation where the vacuum is not 'fully assembled' in normal mode, do yourself a favor and remove the bin from the base.
TL;DR? This vacuum is everything you'd need in a vacuum and significantly cheaper than a Dyson Ball, which has way less versatility. In the end, I probably would've been okay going with the
Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Speed (NV683)
for my needs, but the added power for the marginal price increase makes this vacuum a clear winner in my opinion. My carpet actually feels softer after using this vacuum. If you don't have pets and live in a small house or apartment, I'd probably go with the Speed if I could do it again, but if you've got pets or a large home, the TruePet model is the one you want - trust me.
Highlights:
-Extremely easy to push. In fact the vacuum pulls itself along the floor it has so much suction and power.
-Pivoting Head: I have never had pivoting head vacuum, but manipulating the vacuum and turning it was extremely intuitive. I had no problem maneuvering the vacuum around the house.
-Power button and floor height controls are within reach of my thumb while vacuuming which makes adjusting on the fly easy.
-Very powerful suction
-Emptying the bin is easy and a clean process. I opened the top of the bin and dumped the stuff out. You can use the bottom of the bin, but my experience with my Dyson has shown me that emptying throw the bottom can get messy.
-If the brush gets tangled up or is on a thick rug it automatically disengages to prevent damage to the vacuum or the item. (I got too close to a low hanging shirt sleeve in my closet and it sucked it up).
-The head of the vacuum has a low profile and can easily get under things.
-The lift away function allows me to clean under my bed and some furniture.
-Sound: I was surprised how quiet the vacuum was. Normally the cats freak out when I start the vacuum, but this one was quiet enough that they actually approached it. while it was running to see was the new noisey thing was.
The Dyson had a wider head, which allows it to cover more ground quickly. The Dyson also has a slightly longer cord. I only bring the cord length up because while I was researching which vacuum to get, I remember one of the infomercials boasting about the cord length of the Shark.
I am extremely happy with my purchase and I will add updates to my review if my opinion changes on the vacuum.
