I LOVE this vacuum. It works GREAT! It is sturdy, a great value for the money, has a really long cord to fit from room to room.
I have 1 small dog, and 2 cats. I empty it usually 3 times in one stretch in 3 rooms with carpet and floor.
It has 2 modes, one for floor and one to set the carpet beater in motion in the second mode.
It comes apart easily to make it shorter, or longer, or to add any attachments you have to put on the end.
A really good buy!
I vacuumed with my old stick vac (less than a year old!) Yesterday, and this photo is the amount of dog hair and dirt I got off of a single 5ft runner rug, that isn't even a place my dog lays down very often, when I went over it again today with the new Shark stick vac. I knew it wasn't my eyes playing tricks in me, my rugs were DINGY! and that is after I took them all outside and cleaned them just 2 months ago. (you know those rug cleaning videos, like that!)
I'm fully impressed, and will keep this review updated as time goes by.
- Easy to assemble (takes you 1 minute)
- Long power chord
- Noise is not overpowering
- Won’t throw what it vaccines back at you
I'm sure all the readers can tell this is a report on quick cleaning of surface dirt. I just wanted to let you know that for what I expected to accomplish this vacuum excelled. I is a little top heavy and will cause some fatigue. I'm 74 and perhaps lacking some stamina but it DOES have a hook at the lower part of the wand where the motor can be hooked so it stands upright while you take a break or for easy storage. (See pic).
This devise is not usable like a regular upright. It requires using whatever technique works best. Like on the carpets I couldn't pull the vacuum, only push, because the carpet is so thin the head would pull the carpet with it. So I pushed then tilted the vacuum head and pulled back to take the next swipe. Not really difficult. Just technique.
First, hair. As you can see from the attached image, I have the kind of long, extremely thick hair that strangles vacuum rollers dead in nanoseconds. This vacuum's roller has a groove carved into the plastic so you can quickly and easily slide a knife or scissor blade in, severing every hair with no hassle. Instant cleanup, no destroyed roller.
The suction is no joke. There are two settings: one that is as powerful as my old vacuum on max power, and one that is TURBO CHARGED. This will demolish ground-in dirt and hair even from high-pile carpet or rugs. The suction is so powerful, even carpeting and rugs that have been pounded completely flat have the fibers physically pulled upwards, so even if your hairy little monster of a pet likes to destroy carpet or rug fibers, after vacuuming they feel plush and wonderful. Con: on Turbo mode, you will smell burning hair. The motor really is not kidding around and will set itself on fire before it allows the tiniest speck of dirt to remain on your floor.
Second: weight. It's remarkably lightweight and very easy to heft around even with tiny elf arms. The maneuverability of the vacuum head is excellent and can work around such tight unwieldy places as between chair legs. All the pieces pop apart and reassemble with no trouble, so storage and transportation will never be an issue. Con: almost all of the weight is in the top handle, where the motor is. This can make it a tiny bit difficult to get the vacuum head to stay on the ground properly, and makes it nigh impossible for you just to stand the vacuum up anywhere and leave it there. Being top-heavy does it no favors.
General design con: the canister is somewhat small and connected directly to the motor so you can't just pop it out, empty it into a bin, and pop it back into the vacuum. It's very easy to empty, but you are still going to have to heft the motor around with it, and the motor is obviously still going to be plugged into the wall. Good news is that the motor/handle/canister all pops free of the other bits with a simple lever press, so it's not like you need to carry the entire vacuum with you when you head to the bin.
Bonus pro: there are a huge number of attachments, heads, and specialty bits and bobs in with the vacuum. I don't know what half of them are used for. Some are obviously for cleaning off stairs, or ceiling fans, or getting into crevasses, but some of them, who even knows. Literally whatever kind of application you'd like this vacuum for, there's probably a specialized nozzle for it. This is the cleanest my stairs have been in four years.
Final pitch: look, I get it. I have a A Thing about money where no matter how worthy a purchase it is, a triple digit price tag makes me flinch. I put off getting a new vacuum for months and watched my own mental health spiral, knowing a contributing factor was that I was living in rising masses of dirt and grime. Danger had its element, too; a pie plate exploded (don't ask) and glass shards found themselves all over my kitchen floor, and some ended up in my feet. No vacuum to clean up the shards I couldn't see and couldn't get up with a broom and dustpan. I know being surrounded by painful messes we're powerless to fix is a 2020 mood and all, but this metaphor is a little too on the nose. I caved and bought the vacuum. I cranked her up this morning. This is the best I've felt in months. I know the price tag is a little steep compared to other lightweight vacs, but it's powerful and versatile enough that it's absolutely worth the expenditure.
If you're looking for a worthwhile vacuum that will demolish human hair, pet hair, ground-in dirt, and particulates from any flooring you could possibly have, all while staying under $200, this is it.
The image shows how it picks up lots of super fine dust that my stand-up Hoover missed. It picked all of that up in just a small area of “clean” carpet. That Hoover is already out in the garage, waiting to be dumped or sold! After vacuuming several rooms with this Shark Rocket, the white filter was almost completely grey with fine dust already. I definitely don’t mind replacing filters often if it’s keeping that out of my house and sinuses! By the way... my carpets haven’t been this fluffy in years! I couldn’t be happier.
The suction is very strong (YAY!!) so I would be careful with area rugs and delicate surfaces.
It out-performs every other vacuum I’ve ever used (including Dyson, Hoover, Bissell, and more, including two brands of robot vacuums) when it comes to tile floors. Every other vacuum would shoot/spray out debris back towards my feet as I was vacuuming. So frustrating. This Shark Rocket doesn’t do that! It picks up everything without spraying junk all over the place. The only things it couldn’t pick up were larger feathers dropped by our medium-sized parrot.
Of course it is quite top heavy... and my arms got a good work out while using it since you basically have to carry the weight of it the entire time you’re using it. You do need a bit of hand strength since the heavy part you’re holding on to is also vibrating a bit. It is easy to detach the heavy motor/canister when you need to take a break or set it down without it falling over.
Setting up the vacuum was as easy as clicking the motor to the pole and the pole to the vacuum head. It was ready to use in seconds after unboxing it.
One thing I wish they would’ve done is make the power cord detachable. The cord is pretty heavy, and it isn’t convenient having to carry it around and hold it out of the way when you need to empty the canister.
Also, the swiveling vacuum head kinda has a mind of its own, and always seems to swivel directly into furniture, walls and corners that I’m trying to vacuum around. 🤷🏻♀️
It does shoot hot air straight back towards you as you’re using it... it would have been a plus if they could’ve made it shoot the air out to the side instead.
I had to untangle a few hairs and fabric threads from the rolling brush, but it wasn’t an issue. Keeping up with that regularly so it doesn’t get unmanageable would be a good idea.
Due to the weight of it that you have to support, I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with strength or mobility issues. For me, it is one of the best purchases I’ve made in years, and I actually look forward to cleaning my floors again. I will update this once I start using the attachments/if my opinion changes.
This is great for both hardwood floor and rugs. My house is mostly hardwood floors with area rugs. Plus... I have a husky who sheds everyday of the week year long lol. So being able to clean everything with one device is awesome. There's 2 mode settings. One for bare floor and then one for carpets. There are bonus attachment pieces you can hook on the the hose rod. It also comes with a convenient storage bag to hold all your attachments and keep them in one place. There is also a attachment so you can hang the vacuum on the wall.
This vacuum is top heavy since the motor is where the handle is so you will need to prop it up against something or hang it on the wall. This does have a cord but the cord is a great length and I can pretty much get 2 rooms done with it before having to re plug it in a different outlet. This is also doesn't need a bag so disposing the dirt is very easy.
Over all this will always be my favorite vacuum and I will refuse to switch to anything else. Very satisfied!!
For those that want similar (maybe better designed) but with no cord, Dyson stick vacuums are great but cost several times more, and 7-10 min run time on high setting followed by several hour long recharge may not work for everyone.
One thing to note: Some people had issues with the unit being "top heavy" and falling over during storage. Seems to be operator error. Clearly this vac is intended to be stored with the hand unit attached to the lower end of the stem, via a retention hook for storage, as shown. The weight of the unit puts a forward moment on the stem, making it unlikely to unfold horizontal or detach and fall to the side. Seems like a simple and convenient solution. There are (too) many attachments, some of which are highly useful. There's a bag for them, so keeping them strewn about is not an issue.
Materials used make an impression of durability. Hopefully it lasts, but first impressions are very good.
Mine did not come with the under appliance tool but I wouldn't have given it a thought if it wasn't in the parts list in the booklet.
It was super easy to assemble, you just click the long stick onto the top part and click on your attachment. Take off the stick and click on an attachment for the stairs or sofa.
I do wish it stood up on it's own as I don't know where I'm going to hang it, (with included mount) but I will figure that out.
I have attached a picture of the micro tool kit and also a picture with a micro tool attached.
I am "upgrading" my old vacuum to this Shark vacuum. I have had a Hoover Nano cyclonic for 6 years next month. I purchased it when I moved into my old apartment in April 2011. I had all carpet there. Here in my new apartment, I have all hardwood except an area rug in living room and bedroom is carpet. I also have two dogs and two cats that leave hair and cat litter everywhere. Slowly I was losing the constant sweeping battle. Most vacuums I have run across have had such hit or miss reviews so I was hesitant. I finally decided to give this one a try.
Pros:
-seems to have great suction and cleaning power. Mildly embarrassed at how much came out of my carpets and I just vacuumed a couple days ago with the old one.
- I love the long cord. I can do the whole apartment except half the bedroom without unplugging it. Makes it go so much faster.
- easy to put together. No screwing required.
-lots of various cleaning attachments. Although I will admit I probably won't use them.
-quiet!! (As compared to previous vacuum). One of the cats didn't even move until I almost ran him over.
-very easy swivel maneuver. I can go up and down and almost completely horizontal without ever moving.
-small head and ability to lay flat means less furniture to nove.
CONS:
-small dirt container means quicker emptying.
-the weight is in the handle so your arm does get quite the workout. I can not see someone like my mom who is 66 being able to use and maneuver this vacuum.
-it blows pretty warm almost hot air right where your arm is. It's not bad just kinda a small annoyance.
So overall, I am really happy and impressed with this thing so far.
When it finally arrived to our Post Office in Southeast Alaska on my lunch break, I opened it up so fast and vacuumed from ceiling to floor at the ferry terminal I work in! When I got home, I had just vacuumed the day before, I vacuumed again... I emptied that thing out 3 times with dusty dander nasty crap that I couldn't even believe was still in my carpet after my previous vacuum! This thing is amazing and you can swap pieces out like BAM! I'm vacuuming the ceiling! Whoa! now I'm vacuuming the couch! What! the carpet and now the bathroom!?!
**********************LESS THAN TWO YEARS LATER*********************
I’m so upset. The hose where the “swivel steering” occurs has cracked away in many places. This piece is irreplaceable and I will have to buy a whole new vacuum but can’t afford that right now. So I have wrapped electrical tape or ductape around the hose and have to replace it often, as it loses its sticky after a few vacuums. You want to talk about “never loses suction” try having dust flying out of the cracked hose! Now I’m lucky if it’ll pick up the basic crumbs.
Also, before the cracked hose. It did not work on hardwoods. It’s as if the bristle brush makes it so it can’t suction the stuff off the floor. If you turn the bristle spin on, of course it just shoots everything away.
***********************A FEW MORE MONTHS GO BY*******************
The trap door to empty contents out, the plastic hinge, it broke off while opening it to empty out the contents! Now it’s rubber-banded shut!
****
After all this, I still want my old Shark back! I’m so broken hearted that it didn’t last as long as they said and I’m still financially not okay to just go out and buy a $200 vacuum as I have a toddler and am pregnant.
