The second vehicle is my 2001 Pathfinder - the "dog car" which was considerably dirtier and covered in dog hair. The Black + Decker did a fine job and lasted for about 20 minutes - long enough to get the front and back seats and floors but not to get to the back cargo area. I used the incorporated brush a lot to dislodge my English Sheppard's long hair from the seats but admittedly there's still dog hair left behind - which I expected. If I started with a clean Pathfinder and then did regular touch-ups it might be fine but this SUV was dirty and the B+D still managed to do just fine.
I like the adjustable nozzle and also used the built-in crevice tool to get into nooks and crannies. Pic is of the hairy dog for reference :>)
I learned about the vacuum on Wirecutter and their review was spot on. So, bottom line, if you are worrying about the extra $20 or so for this vacuum, I suggest you go for it. The benefits are worth the extra $$. I hope it lasts a long time.
Only con is the charger is toooo low, my back hurts when I want to charge them. But if u put it on shelves or what I guess it won't be a problem.
Anyways Highly Recommened.
The first is that it folds
Second, it's soft
Third, each function is attached to itself
Fourth, it's easy to throw away trash
Fifth, the sound is adequate.
The end
The other issue is that it comes with a wall charger, and they mean that very literally. In other words, if you want the charger to sit on the counter, it will be rather awkward and the charging elements won't always connect well enough to charge because the design of the charger seems to rely on gravity to keep the vacuum pressed firmly to them.
For these reasons, this wasn't a good fit for our family and I'm returning it. If this stuff doesn't bother you and you just want a cheap and easy handheld vacuum - then it's probably fine.
able to pick up the bigger pieces of cardboard my cats scratch off of their scratchers. the only thing i don’t like about it is that you have to continuously hold down a button to use it instead of just flipping a switch - it makes my finger hurt after a couple minutes of use but if you’re only using it for small messes it shouldn’t be a big deal. i’m just too lazy to get my big corded vacuum out lol. it also doesn’t work very well for getting hair off of rugs, but that was kind of to be expected for the price. i just use one of those glove brushes for cats to get the hair off of fabric. it works well for my needs - getting hair, dust, and crumbs off of hardwood and tile floors where i don’t want to lug around our big heavy vacuum.
Works good tho.
Should have been cheaper for used. Not sure, but may return it.
However, the battery life is not great. It only lasts for around 10-15 minutes on a single charge, which may not be enough for larger cleaning tasks. Additionally, the dustbin is small and needs to be emptied frequently, which can be inconvenient. Another issue with this handheld vacuum is the noise level. It is quite loud, which can be irritating if you need to use it for an extended period of time.
This vacuum is a decent option for small cleanups: The strong suction power and handy attachments are positives, but the short battery life and loud noise level may be a dealbreaker for some users.
When I first opened the box and saw the vacuum I loved the look, loved the extremely light weight of it, loved the ability to adjust the position but I was very concerned about the size of vacuum spout that sucks up the dirt. It's smaller than most others.
I have a shark hand vacuum and the suction size of this B&D is roughly 1/3 of the size.
BUT........
It had a a bit of a charge so I gave it a try on a runner rug I have in my entryway......
I vacuum it every single day because we come and go and we also have a dog. So, it's continually getting lots of dust and debris or what not.
This hand vacuum is so strong and works so well that I had to find the right angle for the vacuum itself so it would not suck the runner rug up!
I got about half of the runner done before the little bit of charge it had in it died and when I looked at what was in the vacuum dirt holder I was shocked!
There was so much dirt, sand and dog hair that was vacuumed up that I couldn't believe my eyes!
I took pictures. What you are seeing is less than half of my 5 ft X 2 ft runner rug that was vacuumed with the Black & Decker AND I had JUST vacuumed it with my Shark last night!
I poured the dirt out onto a paper plate so you can really see what was in there however there is still a ton of dirt caked on the plastic of the interior.
THIS HAND VAC IS POWERFUL. I'm keeping it. My only complaint is the size of the suction because it takes a little longer when it covers less area but that is easy for me to overlook given the power if this vacuum.
I highly doubt there is any other hand vacuum as strong as this one and I can't wait til it's fully charged to go and finish the job on all of my runners as well as in my car!
When the blue light turns off, you know the vacuum is fully charged.) It says in the instructions that you’ll need to charge the new vacuum before using. Once I did this, the vacuum stays charged and can be used for a long time (I did my whole van without needing to recharge.) it’s a great vacuum if you can get it to sit fully on the charger. Meets all my household cleaning needs
It is light weights. Adjustable . You can adjust the vacuum in a number of different ways, angles.( see pics) helping you get all the debris.
It has a few additional pieces;;
• an extension to get into narrow spaces.
• a brush piece which can be used on rugs or anywhere you want.
•When you empty the the debris from the vacuum, you press a button and it opens and empties. How easy is that?
The suction power is unbeatable! It sucks up everything in its path with ease.
-The additional pieces that can be ,..… they are all part of the vacuum it self.
So you won’t lose a piece, , like I always did.)
- The cap that covers all the debris that is vacuumed up, is also attached to the vacuum.
There is a filter that states in place when you empty the debris. That can be changed when you want.
You don’t have to worry about losing anything!!
You also don’t have to touch any of the debris. It pops open, when you press a button, and out it goes.
If all that isn’t enough, check out how much room you need when storing it….( see pics)
You bend it in half, and store it on it’s charger. You don’t need a large area top put it in because of it’s length.
You can put this anywhere..
This is absolutely wonderful.
I am getting it for several people as a gift.
I know just how grateful they will be.
I can’t recommend this enough.
Pros
The charging stand is life changing and not something I've seen on other cordless vacs. I use it, put it back, and it's ready to go the next time I need it. We keep it on a little corner shelf in the kitchen for easy access.
The flip up brush. Genius. I can go from vacuuming up the dirt from sweeping (I use this in lieu of a dust pan b/c it gets everything and dust pans never do) to getting the fur out of the corners of our couch or a weird corner of tile which somehow gathers fur from our 2 dogs. I also use the brush to get the dust from the top of our floor boards/trim. The flip up brush means I don't have to go hunting for an attachment.
The ability to adjust the angle of the suction head. This is something I didn't think I'd actually use much, but I do. It comes in handy in tight spaces where it's not an option to have it fully extended.
Cons
So far my only complaint is that the battery life could be a little longer. It's not a huge issue for me now, but I've never gotten more than an hour of continuous use out of it, which was a little annoying when I was using it to vacuum my car.
My mistake- I actually totally forgot about the filter and went 4.5 years before I changed it. Don't do that. I was complaining to my brother that I was going to have to buy a new one of these b/c the suction wasn't working well anymore. He mentioned I should try replacing the filter. Oops I'd completely forgotten about it. Changing the filter made it work like new.
So yes, this is the vacuum you need.
We didn't have problems with the charge not lasting, or it not running for a long period of time. Then again, it's a hand vac and I didn't try to use it for more than spot clean-ups. We also always stored in on the charger. I think 3+ years of fairly regular use is pretty good for something like this.
P.S. I uploaded this image the correct way, and it turned sideways. Not sure why.
Now, with the new lithium battery, I'm a happy camper. The only thing I mark this down a star rating for is the emptying door. It barely stays closed when not in use. Fortunately, it does stay closed in use, so it's working out.
I like this because it is small and lightweight and has no plug-in I have to move around with. Ideal for sucking up all that fur off my hardwoods and tile between my more thorough weekly vacuuming and floor mopping. I have no carpet, so I can't speak to that use, but it does have a little brush attached which I have used on furniture upholstery with a satisfactory outcome.
The directions say to fold the nozzle before storing on its charger, but I don't do that. I don't think it has any effect on the function, only perhaps is easily toppled. But without small hands around (and the cats don't bother it) and situated in a corner, it does not topple, and it's ready to use immediately without adjustment.
My gripes are:
1. The pivot nozzle has already developed a crack for whatever reason which I do not understated as I take very good care of my equipment (See Photos)
2. The lock on the side door of the pivot nozzle is total garbage, it does NOT stay secured very well and IF it just touches anything accidentally... the door pops open and dumps the chamber's contents right there on whatever your working on! THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
3. The inner paper filter is useless against fine dirt and particularly sand which gets into the motor and the rotating joint of the pivot nozzle and causes all kinds of havoc!
4. As mentioned previously the battery life could be a little longer under extended use, like trying vacuum out our vehicle were we we have no access to a larger unit or AC power!
Overall a good strong unit but has some severe short comings as listed above!
I am giving three stars because it is a very powerful hand vac, the other stuff needs attention!
I am hoping Amazon and/or Black & Decker will SEE this comment and take corrective action!
After months of calling and writing to BLACK+DECKER customer service and didn’t get any feedback, I wasn’t expecting to get any response. Suppress I got a new product shipped to me around August, 2019.
I got this new vacuum around the beginning of August 2019, it's now March 2020, it is as powerful as I 1st used, it works great, fantastic suction. More than enough battery life.
Thanks B+D. Enjoying my new vacuum, works fantastic.
=================================
I was very excited when I got it at $50.00, the Lightning Deal price. The vacuum was great. It is very powerful and convenient. But started acting out after 1 and half years with very low use. I have this vacuum at my living room, we don't have much chance to use it, only use it on the couches and book-shelf. I don't know whether it was a battery problem or the motor problem, it only runs about 30 sec. then it shut down by itself. If I turn it off and on, it would run for another 3-5 sec. or so, then shut down again. I called and left messages at BLACK+DECKER customer service line and also email, but didn't get any response back.
At the same period of time I bought a cheaper hand vacuum (Black & Decker HHVI320JR02 Dustbuster Cordless Lithium Hand Vacuum-- sale for $25.00) to put in the basement laundry/ play area, I use it almost every day since I got it. It still works well with great suction and the battery holds up well. There is no comparison between those 2 vacuums. I'm not recommend this product as the quality is not so good.
This vcuum did not last. Purchased on Feb/19/2017 and the battery died after just a few months, I purchased a 18v same brand that worked better than this one. This is a total junk for the money, Not recommended. the flip door also has engineering flaw. it can break easily. Look for a better choice.
I bought this Black+Decker BDH2000PL to replace the my old PHV1800 Pivot Vac by Black+Decker. The Pivot Vac PHV1800 is an older version of the hand held vacuums currently made by Black+Decker. The PHV1800 worked very well for more than 5 years. It has very strong suction power at 35 air watts and the battery life per use was decent until recently, the suction is still strong but the battery life per use was fading more and more during the years of use.
The PHV1800 was a very good vacuum and I wanted a comparable replacement hand held vac made by Black+Decker that had 35 or more air watt suction power. I did some research and the only close comparable hand held vac made by Black+Decker was the new version Pivot Vac PHV1810 and this BDH2000PL MAX, both of these vacuums also have 35 air watt suction power and the only hand held vacuums currently manufactured by Black+Decker that has 35 air watt suction power. All the other hand held vacuums made by Black+Decker has less than 35 air watt power.
The differences between the PHV1810 and the BDH2000 PL MAX vacuums were the volts, weight and battery type. The PHV1810 is 18 volts, 4.5 pounds and uses a NiCad type battery. The BDH2000PL MAX is 20 volts, 3.0 pounds and uses a Lithium type battery.
So I decided to go with the BDH2000 PL MAX, mainly because of the 20 volt, Lithium battery and the 35 air watt power.
I just received this vacuum and it works well so far, suction is good and battery life per-use is decent. Will see how this vac holds up, will update review after some more time using the vac. If it holds up like the earlier version PHV1800 hand held Vac, then I’ll be a happy camper.

Black & Decker BDH9600CHV 9.6-Volt Cordless Hand Vacuum
but after about 6 months of daily use from toddler messes the battery wouldn't hold a charger longer than 30 seconds. The problem with most mini vacs is that they don't use a Lithium battery to save on cost. So we went with this model which does have a lithium battery.
The charging dock is a bit odd for wall mounting. Further, the unit is a little awkward to disassemble and even more awkward to empty. Large things like pieces of cereal, small wrappers, etc, will get suck in the intake nozzle very easily. The flap that lets debris enter the canister is too narrow and frequently becomes clogged.
But this is by far the best vacuum that I can find, and I do recommend it as it's a solid performer all around.
I wouldn't recommend this vacuum, but I don't know of something better.
HOWEVER - the hinge on the clean-out access door is woefully under designed. The small plastic pegs on the door that slot into the holes on the opposite side of the hinge of what Black and Decker calls the "Bowl & Nozzle" assembly have two very tiny connection points to the plastic door. After 10 months of daily use, the connection points evidently weakened and today when I opened the door to empty the debris, it came off in my hand. My wife and I have handled the vacuum with care, especially when taking it apart for cleaning, so I would assume that any rougher handling would have resulted in earlier failure.
The Black and Decker parts website has the full "Bowl & Nozzle" assembly available (listed as "limited quantities available" - not sure what that means) for $17.33 + tax and econo shipping of $10.99. Its better than throwing away the whole thing and buying a new unit, but I'm pretty disappointed that an otherwise sturdy, reliable and useful device has this single point of weakness that, once it has failed, essentially makes the whole thing useless.
I'm trying to repair the broken pegs with super-glue and the photo attached shows one peg reattached and the other awaiting glue.
So, beware of this issue and handle the access door extremely gently or buy a second "Bowl & Nozzle" assembly for when the door breaks off.
